Westmoreland Berry Farm

W.A., W.A.'s Daddy and I all decided to take a trip to the Westmoreland Berry Farm!  Also known as WBF, the farm lies approximately 30 miles east of the City of Fredericksburg in Westmoreland County.  It is a working farm/orchard producing peaches, apples, blackberries, cherries and many other fruits and vegetables.  Admission is free and pick your own prices are different for each seasonal fruit.

I did quite a bit of research online at WBF's website about what to pick and when, only to find upon arrival, that ALL of the fields were closed.  Our region has been through a long dry spell so the fruit that made it through ripened fast and was fairly small.  DUH!  I should have known, but I'm no farmer.

BUT (one finger in the air here)!  I did not despair, because WBF had lots to do other than the "pick your own" experience we had shown up for!  For starters, and to my immense pleasure, there was a Country Store!  Hey, any shopping is good shopping if you ask me!

Secondly, WBF had a nice little playground (two, in fact) next to some lovely peach trees.  Both playgrounds overlook the rolling (albeit closed) berry fields and the Rappahannock River.  W.A. enjoyed climbing up and riding down the big slide all by himself!  Next he enjoyed pushing his stroller from the playground to the goats in the air!  Yes!  Goats...in...the...air!

Westmoreland Berry Farm describes this as "goats in the sky".  This is a very cool series of posts, platforms and ramps that the goats travel back and forth on.  This intricate setup is stationed above the road leading into the fields and the picnic area.  W.A. was not interested but your boys out there old enough to "get it" will think it is the coolest thing in the world!

After a few moments of play, we enjoyed some fresh peaches (I'm from Georgia, that was a "must") in their picnic/cafe area.  This area is just outside the Country Store and adjacent to the playgrounds.  It was so nice to eat our fresh picked produce while taking in the beautiful views of the river.  The WBF also has a full service cafe serving hot dogs, chili-dogs, fries and even sundaes with HOMEMADE ice cream!  Peach flavored ice cream is my favorite!
W.A.'s Daddy got some father/son time, Momma got to shop (a witch flag for the front porch), and W.A. wore himself right out!  We enjoyed Westmoreland Berry Farm greatly and cannot wait to get back in the Fall for some "pick your own" (hopefully) apples!  This adventure was THREE THUMBS UP!

Stay tuned for a day trip adventure to Solomons Island, Maryland!
Cheers!

W.A.'s Momma

P.S. Feel free to send me your suggestions for places to visit!
